The Challenge

The Great KL Challenge is a competition presented by Sweden-Malaysia which an initiative by Swedish and Malaysian industry, government authorities and academia with the objective of closing ties between the countries and invite students to drive innovation by submitting great ideas and solutions to existing and future city challenges.

Winners of the competition will receive the opportunity to complete an internship at SAAB in Malaysia, take part in innovation programs, or go on a study trip to Sweden in summer 2013!Read more about the Awards!

To be eligible to win the applicant must either

  1. be enrolled in their bachelor's or master's studies in Malaysia, OR
  2. be a student from Malaysia currently on exchange or pursuing their bachelor's or master's studies abroad.

How to enter

To enter the competition, each applicant is required to:

  1. Register an account at or sign up with an existing Student Competitions account.
  2. Complete the challenge quizzes, answer the free-text case question and complete the profile and personal motivation by the April 28, 2013 competition deadline.
  3. Gather personal recommendations from friends on Facebook to support your entry to increase your chance of winning.

The entire entry must be completed within the given time frame for the competition.
The submission must be completed in English.
Registration and application to the Great KL Challenge is free of charge.

Screening Process

Applicants will be judged and scored based on their quiz results, personal statement, background information, and the quality of their case solution. Recommendations on Facebook will also be assessed based on their quantity and quality, and may play a role in advancing applicants.

After all applications have been received by the April 28, 2013 competition deadline, the top 2 applicants per Award will be selected and notified of their standing in the competition. All finalists will be invited to attend the prize ceremony where they will get to meet with the respectable jury. Read more about the prize ceremony!

The jury will evaluate the submissions and the prize winners will be announced during the prize ceremony. The prize ceremony will take place at the Swedish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on May 22nd, 2013. Travel expenses to the prize ceremony are compensated for finalists traveling within Malaysia.

Applicants can only compete with one entry in the competition.

Applicants must apply individually.

Applicants must provide truthful and accurate information regarding contact and personal information.

All entry materials should be presented and submitted in English.

Applicants must ensure that all text and other submitted materials are created and owned by the applicant.

We cannot be held responsible for any unauthorized use of your entry by visitors to the Great KL Challenge website. After the competition is over, your submission and its contents may be used at the discretion of the competition organizers.

Only entries that are duly received by the closing date will be eligible for the competition. We cannot accept responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed or damaged. Proof of sending an online entry is not proof that we received it.

Entries not submitted in accordance with these terms and all other rules and directions, or entries that are incomplete or illegible (at the sole discretion of the competition organizers) will be excluded from the competition.

Use of information

We will use any personal information submitted in accordance with the Terms & Conditions.

By entering this competition, you consent to the use by the organizers of all images, text and materials that you submit for any purpose, in any media, for an unlimited period, without remuneration. We have the right to publish, display, reproduce, adapt, promote or otherwise use entries in any way we deem fit. You warrant that you are legally entitled to grant these rights to us and agree to indemnify us in the event that we suffer any loss as a result of false information provided by the applicant.

By entering this competition you agree that if you win you will participate in any promotional activities or material, without additional payment or permission, as we may request.

Non-applicants interested in the competition are also encouraged to register on the competition website. Registration will be required in order to receive updates on the competition.


By agreeing to these terms and conditions, you agree to abide by the 'Student Competitions' Terms & Conditions in relation to your use of the Student Competition website.

We are not liable for any damage, loss or disappointment suffered by you for taking part or not being able to take part in this competition.

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, we may alter, amend or foreclose the competition without prior notice.

We reserve the right to change these terms at any time.

These terms are governed by Swedish law and therefore you submit to the jurisdiction of the Swedish courts.
